Denis Eady likes Zeena's cousin Maddie. He was dancing with her at the dance. When Ethan was this he got jealous because Denis is rich and young, the opposite of Ethan.
There is really nothing wrong with Dennis Eady, but from Ethan's point of view there is a problem.Ethan doesn't like Dennis because Dennis likes Mattie and this makes Ethan jealous to know that someone else likes her too. There is nothing wrong with Denis Eady. Ethan is just jealous of Denis because Denis can offer a lot more things to Mattie than Ethan can. Like the fact that Denis is a free man while Ethan is still married to Zeena. Ethan views Denis as someone who is going to take Mattie away from him.
